Take a nature walk and look for a little creature.  Take a picture and write an adventure story about your critter.  Remember that a story is fictional.  Be creative and use your imagination!  What might your creature do?  Use all of your writing strategies like drawing pictures, labeling, and sounding out.

Math Talk

Visit Epic and Read "ABABA A Book of Pattern Play"  https://www.getepic.com/app/read/6063

Find a collection of items outdoors like sticks, rocks, grass, or flowers.  Make a pattern.  Count how many items you used to construct your pattern.  How can you label your pattern using letters?

Please pick one of these literacy options that best suits your child's ability and/or interest:

Please pick one of these numeracy options that best suits your child's ability and/or interest:

Write numbers to 100 on a blank chart.  Use a bingo dabber or marker as you count to mark the different patterns we use when counting to 100.  Use a different colour for each way to count (ie 2 use blue, 5 use yellow, etc.) (hundreds chart and missing number activities are included in email attachments.)

Write your numbers on your marker board as high as you can go.

Mystery Creature

If you find a creature while playing outside or exploring, please make a video with three clues.  Be sure to reveal your creature at the end of the video.  Send it to Mrs. Bennett-Jervis so I can share it on the blog.

Gather some Lego blocks or another measuring tool.  By now, I am sure you can see your sunflower seeds or another plant you have starting to sprout and grow.  Pick one plant that you want to keep track of its growth.  You will take your blocks and measure your plant's growth.

You can make a chart like this:

Many of my happiest memories as a child occurred outside.  Have someone take a picture of you playing outside.  You can make me a video or write your answers.  How do you feel when you are outside.  Look at your picture- what are the clues that tell you are feeling that way?  Are you smiling, laughing?

Here is a picture of me in one of my happy places:

Problem Solving and Innovating

Build a Bug Hotel using materials that you would find in your home or in nature.  Set it outside and record any creatures that visit your hotel.

Create your own game outdoors.  Tell someone the rule or write down them down.  How many people can play?  What is the objective of the game?
